Item Stacking was created by Fizban
It doesn't seem to work as expected, example below:

> load obj 6506
You create a long, black stick.

> load obj 6507
You create a long, black stick.
inv
You are carrying:
( 2) [6507] a long, black stick
( 2) [2] a piece of mail

> drop stick
You drop a long, black stick.

> drop stick
You drop a long, black stick.

> look
[59316] Small Orchard [ NOBITS ] [ Forest ][T 59302]
The garden continues around the edges of several rows of smaller trees, and
the dense forests of Abanasinia encircle the entire orchard to the east and
west. Upon these smaller trees, various flowers or fruit can be seen. They
seem very well taken care of, almost as though an aspect of nature were here to
help them grow. To the north, the path leads back through the garden.
Southward, a wooden building can be seen, built around a large tree.
[ Exits: n s ]
( 2) [6506] There is a long, black stick lying here.

Object 6506 and 6507 have the same name, but are not the same item, one is a staff, the other is a light. It makes a lot more sense for me for such items to not stack in ones inventory and when on the floor and to compare object vnums when deciding whether to stack them or not as opposed to comparing object names like it appears to be doing at the moment.

Not to be the one to be of opposite opinion, but doesn't it make more sense to stack them with the same name even if they are technically different.

The reason I am arguing for is that in the players eyes there isn't any difference between the two

so if the player got let's say 5 of the item and only 1 of them was of the different type....the player could then tell which one is different even though the character theoretically could not tell the difference

just my two sense on why the way it is makes sense

If you as a player can't tell the difference between a light and a staff visually that seems strange to me.

I can see where Nerian is coming from, but I don't think I agree.

In my mind, even though the names look similar, the items themselves could be radically different in the eyes of the character, because of inherent differences between lights and staves. And honestly, I would have never thought to use a stick as a light... I would have tried to wield the light stick as a staff, or the staff stick as a light, and gotten very frustrated when the game told me I couldn't.

That being said, these two sticks (I just loaded them up in game) do not have extra descriptions set. I'm wondering if they still stack when there are extra descriptions?
