Finally, a solution!

stopping the apport service dropped the cores in the tbamud/lib/ directory!

IF this is ubuntu, core file location has changed. It now gets dumped into /var/crash/

to confirm: cat /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern

i just change mine every time I reboot. I just revert it back to core and it drops the core file into <maindir>/lib/
