Question How do I read the core file

HI

Anyone who could tell me how to debug a core file ?

Not often , but every now and then I have a crash and I get a core file.


But I have no idea how to see what happened.


So if anyone could give me a complete walkthrough on how to see what it says. Then I will be very gratefull..

Can the mud still run to look at the core file gdb bin/circle lib/core.# ??

Or do I need to kill the mud first ?

the core file is separate from the running mud. So you can just open it with "gdb lib/core" and it will debug _that_ session.

It is also possible that the core file in ubuntu goes to var/crash and not to your local directory. I pesonally have a script that updates the core file generator to ensure it goes to the local game directory.
