Question Legacy editor symbol usage

So the special character code prior to the improved-text-editor just happens to be the @ character (I'm guessing this was from DIKU? It currently uses /, for example /s). Because of this you can not use @ as the first character on any new line which prevents some use of color codes. Anyone see any reason why we can't get rid of this?

I see no reason not too.
